The Republic of Senegal, and in particular the religious city of Tivaouane, radiates a unique spiritual fragrance that becomes an inseparable part of anyone who sets foot in this enchanting place. The spiritual ambiance and the warmth of its people transport you far from the burdens and noise of everyday life.
I was honored to meet Dr. Ahmad Abdul Aziz Al-Amin, the son of the city’s governor, Dr. Lo, the Deputy Governor of Tivaouane, and Professor Bakary Samba. Through these esteemed figures, I learned about the city’s rich religious heritage and its significant role in promoting political stability in Senegal since independence. Tivaouane has long served as a unifying hub for Muslims across the African continent, regardless of their sectarian affiliations.
I left Tivaouane carrying the responsibility of conveying what I had seen and heard—experiences so profound they made me forget the weight of the many gifts I had received from its generous people.
