Political Awareness in Africa

I was invited by Professor Sidepia Losiney, the leader of the African Intellectual Awareness Project, to attend the launch ceremony of his fourth book on the revival of ancient African languages, such as the Mandingo language, which is considered one of the most important languages in West Africa. Due to its significance, it will be added this month to the list of supported languages in Google’s translation system. After the launch ceremony, we held a discussion with the press about the role of political elites in West Africa in raising community awareness of the African crises that threaten the very foundation of the nation-state. Sudan was mentioned as an African model subjected to all kinds of attempts to dismantle the state and its institutions. I can honestly say that what I witnessed during that academic discussion was enough to understand the level of political and intellectual awareness dominating the emerging generation in Africa—a level that truly inspires pride. They expressed it without saying it: ‘Africa is no longer violated.’
